Within a few weeks, your baby's eyes are ready for their next visuall challenge. After The Munari Mobile, the next in the progression is The Octahedron Mobile.
About The Octahedron Mobile - #2 in the order of progression
The Octohedron Mobile is baby's first 3D mobile, and its simplicity is what makes it so gorgeous. This mobile is made up of three octahedrons. Each octahedron is created through eight equilateral triangles - a continuation of introducing your baby to geometric shapes like the Munari mobile does. The three primary colours, red, blue and yellow are contrasting enough that your baby is able to see the difference between them, and the metallic element to the paper makes them capitvating to look at. The size of each octahedron is slightly different for extra interest and depth too. Being so lightweight, again this mobile moves at the slightest touch or breeze, and being hung cleverly, means it has a fascinating rotation that your baby can track.
When and how should I introduce The Octahedron Mobile?
After The Munari Mobile, you'd be looking to introduce The Octahedron Mobile about 2-3 weeks after, so when your baby is around 5-6 weeks old.
As mentioned before, make sure that when introducing any mobile to your baby, they are content. Often a little after a feed but before they're getting towards needing their next nap is a good time. This means that they will be happy and able to concentrate. To further aid this concentration, it's best that baby is in a calm and quiet environment. This of course isn't always possible, especially if your baby has a sibling. Working with your other child(ren) on showing respect to the baby and how we can protect their concentration may help them to 'play' under their mobile without being interrupted before they're ready to be finished.
What are the benefits of the Octahedron Mobile?
The Octahedron Mobile helps your baby to:
continue to develop their eyesight
encourages both eyes to work together and switch gaze between objects
continue developing their focus, concentration and attention
further practise their independence
continue to experience geometric shapes through play
