Toy rotation is so important when supporting your child's development at home. Observing your child - watching what they are doing, what they're interested in, how they are doing things, all helps you to gather an insight into what toys and resources would support them in meeting their developmental needs and innate interests. You can then rotate these into their play space, keeping what they love and what's giving them the right amount of challenge, adding in some new things, and taking away anything that isn't getting used or is too easy/hard!
This month Mr 2 is particularly interested in:
• Enclosing & Connection Schema Play - both stemming from his love of building with Duplo, Blocks and Magnetic Tiles, particularly building houses for animals to go and live inside.
• Small World Play - retelling familiar stories eg. Gruffalo with the characters
• Using tools - hammering and screwing in particular
• Puzzles - again, touching on that enclosure schema
• Mark Making - he's beginning to give meaning to the marks he makes and enjoys this in different mediums eg. Paint, pens, pencils
So...
What's on his shelves?
Gruffalo Puzzles
DIY Coin Posting Box
We are absolutely loving having this creative area in the play space. It not only adds more storage, but it also offers plenty of mark making opportunities and a place to get creative!
In these drawers are:
Art Aprons & Wipe-Clean Table Mat
Watercolours & Small Pot (for water)
Paper
Pots, Spoons and Containers for Sensory Play
Home Role Play Bits eg. Dolls Bottles, Bags, Phones, Play Kettle etc.
Check back at 29 months for the next rotation and update of the shelves, drawers and play space!
